Don't you think it could be useful add HTML entity decoding before displaying description? For example adding after line 904 (in version: 1.5.7) line, before sending description to output

$description = html_entity_decode($description, ENT_COMPAT, get_bloginfo('charset'));

Finally, it allows to use HTML entities in WordPreess post excerpts, e.g.

etc.
