OfflineHi,
The 'canonical url' feature doesn't seem to work with WPML (WordPress MultiLingual) permalinks for the frontpage. For example, the frontpage of my Dutch language version is:
http://www.xenhideout.nl/log/nl/
The canonical url produced for that page is:
This is incorrect, it should be:
http://www.xenhideout.nl/log/nl/
This issue is the same when a different permalink structure is chosen within WPML:
http://www.xenhideout.nl/log/?lang=nl
becomes the same: http://www.xenhideout.nl/log/
This is only an issue for the home page, other pages get correct canonicals assigned. I cannot test the "?lang=nl" permalink structure though, I get 404 errors, not sure why.
WPML 1.8.1.2.
AIOSEOP 1.6.12.1
I'm not sure if getting the wrong canonical assigned is a good thing for the search engines, but then again, maybe they are not fooled with 2 completely different pages having the same canonical.
What I'm saying is this: the Dutch language frontpage gets the canonical assigned that belongs to the English language frontpage.
Hope this can be fixed some day.
